To Canada and Afghanistan – an Unhappy New Year

After seven years of war, fighting, bloodshed and death in Afghanistan, carried out by American and NATO (including Canadian) troops, Afghanistan is saturated with opium, heroin and other illegal drugs. Women are the fastest growing segment of the addicted population.

Before the war on terror, drug addiction was a minor problem. Since the American-Western invasion and the NATO "mission", it has become the biggest problem facing the country.

Children are also becoming addicted.

What in god's name have we "civilised people" – wrought in the "New Afghanistan"?

Watch this and weep Canadians.

In the light of the Guardian report and today’s accusation that one of ours over there is a murderer, shouldn’t we be asking, do our troops in Afganistan represent Canadian values in ANY way ?
Has even ONE of our Canadian military stepped out of his self-interest zone to condemn ANY aspect of what he sees in Afghanistan?
CBC, CTV and Global would scramble to interview even ONE soldier going public about Canada’s shame.
No, it hasn’t happened. Far from it.
They are signing up instead for third and fourth “tours of duty” (translation: making a bundle, smashing things and killing people).
Even USA has former military personnel risking their asses by refusing to go back, protesting to the world about US military misconduct in Iraq.
    Not Canada.
And we have conveniently forgotten Somalia.
The ones I want to support in Afghanistan are the real heroes, the medics trying to cope with the disasters created by “our troops”.

This is not something new or unique I’m afraid. The human condition has always been a battleground of divided loyalties, split personalities and greedy buffoons. The forces for good still languish beneath the weight of some indescribable emotional and moral confusion drowning all sense of ethics and decent values.
War is the most despicable of human activities but the untold riches that flow from it into the pockets of the few are compelling and powerful aphrodisiacs. The poor, the helpless the uneducated and the weak are left to wallow in god’s word that they shall “inherit the earth”.
Ah yes dear God…but what earth?
George Carlin was right…there is no God but Mammon.
