Playing at Soldiers

mission-accomplishedhillier-306-7721210 Over the past decade the most unpalatable fact of all is how    inspirational the disgraced GWB’s War on Terror has become.

It still has long, strong legs in Ottawa and our media, despising  anyone who observes that we are getting  our arses kicked over  there, or that the victims of torture in Afghan prisons may be  largely goat-farmers  and taxi-drivers who haven’t a clue what’s  going on.
And of course our complicity and obvious cover-up, but I can just  hear Hillier mocking this.
Incidentally this guy has never sustained a combat-wound of any  sort, I’m mystified as to why he’s seen as such a hero.
Afghanistan is a cruel and expensive joke played on both our  military and the Afghani people, now extending to our public  servants.

Far too many of us are still waving the war-banner, led by the likes of Hillier and Mackay.
But why?

These two are gleefully furthering their careers on this folly, needIess to say at great cost and the trashing of our international reputation.

This country is headed downhill under these guys!

    Yes.
Curious how the debate on Afghanistan- in all its nightmare- seems to be mostly supported by those ideologically aligned with the Harper conservatives. Climate change? Nope- not on. Censure of Israeli treatment of the Palestinians? Not a chance. How about a little acknowledgement that the tar sands are now the largest single polluter ON THE PLANET? Are you kidding? Who the hell do we think put these people in ofice, and keep them there?

So its no surprise that our so called military elite are on side with the Bushites and the Harper warrior wannabe’s.
Just as Obama should have fired McCrystal for pre-empting the President regarding troops and the afghan mission, our government should have the guts to say to these generals- Shut the fuck up! If you’re retired- fair enough- spill your guts. When you’re on active duty- you are under Civilian command. You don’t make policy or comment on it. If you do, you will be relieved of your command.

When did we start to ape the American love of all things military? When did we start equating love of country with turning a blind eye to the torture of people we were responsible for. When did we get sucked into George Bush’s and now Barrack Obamas military agenda for the world? When did we equate occupying some one elses country, dropping bombs on them, and shoooting their children, with Canadian values? When, exactly, did Canada become an Imperliast country? Why do we believe the lies the politicians and generals are telling us, the spin they weave to try to convince us there is some shred of credibility in any of this?

You’re right- They have brought shame to us. But shame on us that most don’t seem to care or, worse, cheer it on.

We could all send emails to the PMO…

  4. Bill says:

I just have, Jim. But its like pissing in the ocean. These people have an agenda, and its clear what it is by now. Nothing short of the transformation of the country to a neo conservative, militaristic toady to the U.S. war machine and big oil.
