I thought all that needed to be said about President Obama was done during his ascendancy and election.
Unfortunately, not so. We may be looking at his one-term career as an irrelevant twitch in US history.
Why?
First, he feels free to eulogise about the Afghanistan election-farce which will put US-puppet Karzai back exactly where he was, all accomplished by US military might and a few me-too ISAF sidekicks like Canada.
Elections? He has made no statement whatsoever about the patchwork nightmare of the US electoral system and its dubious recent history.
If the machinery of democracy is such a big deal to USA and gives them the moral authority to kill thousands of innocent people in its name…… why don’t they make a serious effort to fix their own electoral mess?
USA could turn this rusting bucket-of-bolts into a Cadillac if they put their mind to it.
Secondly, he has said absolutely nothing about the monsters who preceded him in the White House.
The world has been waiting for a presidential statement calling to account those who disgraced and almost bankrupted the country they were elected to lead.
If he thinks Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and Rice will eventually be respected, forgiven or forgotten through the passage of time, he is dead wrong.
Meanwhile, up here: a Harpic with that “Mission Accomplished” feel.
Will Iggy or Jacko or Gilles be following suit?
Harpo seems to be doin’ all right for a minority leader in spite of the clown-cabinet he selected (or was forced to select…)
Those who should be of concern to him say nobody wants an election, so it’s rock on Stevie.

There is no question that the U.N.’s ISAF (The International Security and Assistance Force) is a not a proper Force but rather a tragic Farce.
It was created – after the fact – under U.S. pressure – as a means of covering the Bush/Cheney/Rice/Rumsfeld collective ass from a legal standpoint. Obviously the initial attacks on Afghanistan were illegal and ill-thought-out.
Obama is suffering from something I call “The Afghan Gap”. He either doesn’t get it…or he has buckled under pressure from the MIC (the Military Industrial Complex that General/President Eisenhower warned the world about).
You are right on LA about the Congressional namby-pambies…who haven’t a clue…or are taking their cues from MIC
I suggest that anyone who wants a glimpse of truth attend at Walkerton’s Jubilee Hall on the evening of August 28th at 7:30.
A sterling gentleman Lieutenant Colonel Robert Bowman Phd., formerly of the United States Airforce will speaking. Bowman pulls no punches.
I’m not sure I agree that Obama can be criticized for not lambasting the Bush administration. He is taking the high moral ground and being a compassionate liberal. It seems to me to be part of his effort to be a “…uniter, not a divider” (irony intended).
He could follow the course of Bush and just push his agenda on everyone. He has the power. Doesn’t that indicate that he is on higher moral ground?
Garth
He has to listen to his own appointees, don’t you think.
From the Huffington Post:
WASHINGTON — Contrary to White House wishes, Attorney General Eric Holder may push forward with a criminal investigation into the Bush administration’s harsh interrogation practices used on suspected terrorists.
Eric Holder is not alone in wanting to move up and away from the dismal Bush years.
If Obama chooses his advice based on his own agenda rather than what America wants, he is no better than Bush.
Well I can’t say I’ll be disappointed if Holder proceeds. It should be done. I suppose he is just being the “bad cop”.
I’m not sure any president really does what America wants. Actually I doubt any of them has ever had a clue. I believe they more likely operate on a principle of “I know what’s best for America”.
