Lawrence Cannon, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Should Shut Up.

Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon says he’s troubled by reports of intimidation of opposition candidates offices by Iran’s security forces.

Cannon claims that he has ordered Canadian embassy officials in Tehran to be vigilant. He has called on Iranian authorities to conduct fair and transparent counting of all ballots.

Incumbent President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been declared the winner. Was there fraud? Possibly. Does it matter? No.

Mr. Cannon is allowed to criticize other countries when Canada, the U.S. and other western nations have reached a level of democracy that is without flaws. Until then, it is appropriate for him to keep his nose out of other peoples’ business.

Let’s not forget that in the year 2,000 it was the U.S. Supreme Court that decided the outcome of the presidential elections in the context of reports of widespread electoral fraud and manipulation.

If I remember correctly, in that election Al Gore polled a majority of the popular vote, but lost the election.

Enough said.

Mr. Cannon ought to keep his mouth shut.

Thanks for this Jim, and you’re right.
But I guess I can’t imagine this government having the couage, indeed even seeing the necessity of saying anything different than the U.S. State department-when it comes to Iran, Israel, etc. We seem to have no independent foreign policy, nor have we had for some time. And with Iggy? More- much more, of the same.

Something else I’d like to mention for your comment.

The Prime Minister’s statement the other day with regards to Canada getting out of the medical isotope business I think is this generations equivilent of the Avro Arrow debacle. We invented medical isotopes, and have produced them since the 1950′s. We can spend eighteen billion on a failed and senseless mission in Afghanistan, but can’t seem to find the wherewithal or the vision to continue and enhance this isotope program for cancer treatment for all Canadians. Shame.
    Your comments?

Stephen Harper has betrayed the people of this country as surely as any leader of any country has done in the past. Names come to mind that are too unspeakable to mention.
