Today is International Womens Day.
It’s meant to honour the struggle of women over the generations to gain independence, equality and respect.
One of the great impediments women have encountered over the centuries, has been the religious power of self-righteous men.
Persecution of women has always been worst, when religious zealots are in the ascendancy.. ..from the Salem Witch Trials in 17th century America, to the modern-day theocratic and sexist regime of Saudi Arabia.
A dear friend sent me this yesterday and it’s worth taking the time…not just to read it, but to read it carefully…especially the part where it shows that the great United States of America and the administration of George W. Bush, are aiding and abetting the persecution and murder of
women.
The U.S. is financing the murder of women at the very moment you are reading these words.

The fact that Bush had no clue about Iraq’s history, society, simmering religious hatreds (and, I daresay, even it’s geographical location) provides all we need to know about the whys and wherefores of the current bloody barbaric situation.
And despite the facts, ‘democracy’ is just around the corner… another surge (twenty thousand more troops ought to do it)… in a country whose movers and shakers are cretinous bullies who get their jollies by raping, torturing, and murdering women.
Shameful. Deluded. Criminal. Bush did more than start a war. He brought the full belly of history vomiting onto the sand.
very articulate for a doctor boogie
Thankyou for making my day Jim. I must admit I was discouraged after reading the scathing remarks about our G.G. going to Afghanistan, in the Globe today. The men who were making the negative remarks were saying “down with the Monarchy” “no one likes her” “get rid of her” etc, all missed the point completely of why living in Canada for a woman is “priceless”. Also I had read where an average of 700 women per year in Quatamala were raped and murdered and scooped up into garbage bags. Apparently it’s not considered an unusual event and not high on a priority to solve.
So, trudging up my 3 flights of stairs to my apartment after work tonight just seemed a little longer. You can imagine my delight and gratitude when I read your thoughts for the day. Also Doctor Boogie, you rock, my friend, and I agree with you completely. What was it Ghandi said? We must become the change we want to see. We still have and always will have our Willy Pictons and frightened men who act out in violence towards women but at least a woman in Canada can change her options if she wants to. You make me proud to be a Canadian.
We must all make every effort to change the attitudes of the minority of people who are racist, sexist, ageist etc.etc.
Never give up.
Lord Jim
It’s difficult for a Canadian to comprehend the vastness of the US military but yesterday’s visit to the naval base in Norfolk VA did just that…. the USS Harry Truman aircraft-carrier looks bigger than Port Elgin, and it’s just one item in just one location…… my next thought is, how crucial that they use all this power with huge restraint when intervening in the outside world, unlike in these days of “Mission Accomplished” and “Shock and Awe”……
My Bush-loathing cousins are retired military, some are better at history than I am. They don’t know what is to be done in Iraq, only what a godawful mess it is, a disaster they never supported and will have to live with for the rest of their lives.
Millions of Americans are dedicated to doing “the right thing” around the world, which perhaps explains the Democrat dilemma… although many saw Iraq as wrong right down the line, the “cut and run” option would be like police-officers abandoning an emergency or crime in progress.
Perhaps they see it as beyond political bickering, perhaps their priority is beginning the long journey back to American compassion and decency, making USA once again worthy of respect and admiration.
Unfortunately the Dems today have nothing in their shop-window, unchanged from last November when American voters gave them control of Congress and Senate in a flood of repugnance for the Current Occupant.
Any suggestions for them?
Lord A.
Nice to see you back.
My first suggestion is that they re-read with great care the Report that was produced by James Baker et. al. also known as The Iraq Study Group Report.
Secondly, that they follow the wise recommendations of that Report to the letter.
Third- that they apologise to the people of Afghanistan for creating the Taliban in order to combat the Russians.
Fourth- that they convene a regional summit under the chairmanship of China, to find out how the world can help in a constructive way in The Middle East.
And Fifth- that they lay down the law to the Israeli’s and force a just settlement of the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Finally, they need to issue 2 apologies….one o the people of Iraq and the other to all of the soldiers and their parents, wives husbands and other relatives, for even thinking about invading Iraq.
In other words they need an enormous helping of good old-fashioned Crow.
