Canada's Young People: They Are The Future – Let's Nurture Them

It's My View That Most of Our Young People Rock – In More Ways Than One

Every so often, I hear adults carping about kids. They're accused of being selfish, of being interested only in gadgets and more gadgets, lazy, irresponsible and the list goes on.

Well, I'm here to tell you folks that I have a lot of confidence in the generation that's coming of age.

A lot of these young people actually think. Sometimes they think more deeply and more intelligently than a lot of adults.

One of them happens to be one of my sons. (Actually all my sons are hard-working, thoughtful and creative).

Anyway, here's a video my youngest – Mitchel – did recently for his YouTube channel and I'm very proud of him.

Have a look!

    Yay Mitch! Yay Jim!
Articulate, well thought out. And a great vid, well planned and executed.
You have every reason to be proud.

Mitch has grown into a good looking thoughtful man, and you must be so proud of him. I am. Great stuff, and delivered so cooly. Congrats Mitch.

    Good work, Mitchel
I wish I could find who said the future of humanity will be decided not between rich vs. poor, black vs. white or East vs. West, but between the Engaged and the Unengaged.
This is where we all give ourselves a short burst of applause.
Then get down to pondering, what is the scope of these two states.
I have found it helps to explain and even anticipate outcomes which are surprising to those still applying the old political paradigms.
A brief fr’instance would be info I didn’t already have from a TVO expert in constitutional law that policies of the Bloc, NDP and Liberals would all equally serve the needs of Quebeckers, there’s huge overlap.
This tells me the outcome of Quebec elections won’t be from Ottawa media-driven spin, but from people in that province using their noggins to discriminate, as they did in recent elections. Out with Harper, in with Charest but not by much.
May the ranks of the Engaged in Quebec continue to grow. I’ve said for years, usually after a visit to La Belle Provence, no wonder there’s a mood to separate, they’re so far ahead of TROC…..
If apathy and cynicism drive us into the increasing flock of Unengaged, we are all headed for big trouble.
But to second point of writing: well done young Ontario drivers. This shows it CAN be done.
And it will harm McGuinty’s re-election prospects, he’s a silly boy.
But it must be borne in mind this reversal of policy was driven by 150,000 voices speaking as one, all having suffered the same insult.
I would say to these young drivers, are you a one-issue-and-disband collaborative, like anti-Walmarters?
PLEASE say no. You have the ball at your feet. Politicians around the world have taken note.
    Another cause? Glad you asked.
If I was in your 300,000 shoes I’d want a sea-change in investigations of police misconduct. Plenty of police-officers are good people signed up for the right reasons.
Other are not, the ones which make all of us potential victims of power-abuse, as in the Tasering-death of that poor bugger in Vancouver Airport.
Our RCMP have cleared themselves of any wrongdoing in that sickening affair. They took a look at THEIR OWN records of the event, assigned THEIR OWN investigators, used THEIR OWN “experts” in THEIR OWN inquiry.
Now why would they ever come up with a statement any different?
    Duh

  4. Sam Mooney says:

So Mitch – if you’re looking for causes…
What about getting 150,000 voices to work on electoral reform? If you all started now maybe we’d see a change in my lifetime.
    I can dream.

  5. Jim Reed says:

    wow Mitch…you’re getting some good comments…all well-deserved.
