Canada in Afghanistan

A First for Us

In our zeal to impose our will on others, our soldiers are being placed in a terrible situation.

Villages considered hostile to the government of Afghanistan, are shut out of assistance programs in the hope they will become more compliant, and that policy won’t change just because the Alizais are shouting “death to Canada” in the streets, said Lieutenant Derrick Farnham, a civilian-military liaison officer at Canadian headquarters in Kandahar.

Wouldn’t it be better to help these people instead of treating them in this way. Hardly a good strategy for winning hearts and minds.

Does this approach increase the prospect of more terror?

I keep forgetting, we’re in Afghanistan to do what?

    Lookin’at last month….
Sam, we’re in Afghanistan to atone for not joining Wee bushy in his genocidal romp in Iraq.
Cynical and pointless. Throwing away young Canadian lives and our reputation in the process. What can we do now, given all of our continental leaders are pimps for the industro-military sector.
Not to be forgotten in the screams, smoke and mounting civilian deaths, it was our Liberals that got us in there, and without debate.
Layton had the only position that makes any sense, but sad to say it had a “sell-by” date and we ARE going to look even worse if we pull out or try to redefine this disaster now.

Lord Anthony: when you say “Sam, we’re in Afghanistan to atone for not joining Wee bushy in his genocidal romp in Iraq.”, that’s not really the case. I’m no supporter of our being there, but we embarked on that mission in October of 2001 in the wake of 9/11, when, let’s admit it, it would have taken balls of brass we just didn’t have to say “no”. But the US and UK didn’t kick in the door in Iraq for another year and a half after that, in March of 2003. We might STILL be in Afghanistan because we didn’t go to Iraq, but it’s not the reason we went. No, we went to get Osama bin Laden. Six years ago. And we’re still there.

Lord Anthony should have said “We’re STILL in Afghanistan to atone……
